Registered Collectors

A “Collector” is a government-approved carrier, registered with the BC Used Oil Management Association (BCUOMA) that picks up used oil and antifreeze materials from over 4,000 generators, including the approximately 490 Return Collection Facilities and delivers them to a Processor registered with the BCUOMA. BCUOMA pays the registered Collectors to pick up these used oil and antifreeze materials at rates that vary, depending on the remoteness of the collection area.

I have a large quantity of used oil material that needs to be picked up?

If you are a generator of used oil and antifreeze materials, in quantities more than a do-it-yourselfer, please click on the applicable zone of the province and the names of Collectors operating in that zone will appear. For more information about a particular Collector in that zone, please click on the name of the Collectors. Please make arrangements directly with one of the companies listed on our site. BCUOMA does not schedule pick-ups on behalf of our Registered Collectors.

How does my company apply to become a Registered Collector with BCUOMA?

BCUOMA will only process your application and approve your registration upon receipt of all the above mentioned items. Once approved, your company information will then appear on our website under our Collector Listing.

What is a Letter of Regulatory Compliance and where can I get one?

All BCUOMA registered Collectors and Processors are required to provide the Association with a “Letter of Regulatory Compliance” prior to registration and every two years thereafter. The “Letter of Regulatory Compliance” is to certify that the Collector and/or Processor have had a third party environmental audit of its operation and that the operation is in significant compliance with all applicable environmental legislation. The “Letter of Regulatory Compliance” shall be signed and/or sealed by a member of a duly recognized professional association or society that sets member qualifications and has appropriate audit standards and protocols, such as the Canadian Environmental Auditing Association – CEAA (www.ceaa-acve.ca), Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists – APEGBC (www.apeg.bc.ca) and the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC – ASTTBC (www.asttbc.org).

What happens if my company does not comply with the requirement to have an Environmental Audit done?

Failure to submit a Letter of Regulatory Compliance every two years will result in removal from the list of BCUOMA approved Registered Collectors and Processors. BCUOMA will not register a Collector or Processor as eligible to receive Return Incentives (RIs) for pick-up of used oil and antifreeze materials or an Infrastructure Development Incentive (IDI) for processing plastic oil and antifreeze containers unless they submit a Letter of Regulatory Compliance prior to registration and every two years thereafter, signed by an independent third party qualified professional.

How much are the Return Incentive (RI) Rates?
